Taylor Gillis
Having been transformed by the experience of becoming a father while losing his own father, Taylor Gillis contemplates mortality and his own existence through intuitive and visceral mark making. Using his learned instincts for color and composition, he works quickly to open himself up and react to what is in front of him.
He views each piece as an artifact from his own life with dents from pencil and drips from paint
providing direct evidence of his existence to be left behind.
Each piece is a snapshot in time created with materials that were important at different stages in his creative development such as watercolor, pencil, gouache, and screen printing ink.
