The R Gallery at Arlene’s in Albany announced the return of its third annual 3x3 at Arlene’s, which brings together artwork by local artists, creatives, and everyone in between as a fundraiser to support local charitable initiatives. From July 8, 2022 to July 30, 2022 the artwork will be available for purchase with the majority of the proceeds going to support this year's beneficiary, Free Food Fridge Albany.
The exhibit features small works of art, all 3” square, of various mediums and substrates. All generously donated by members of our local creativity community. All work will be sold for $10 each and the majority of the proceeds will go to support Free Food Fridge Albany . Andrew Ochal, Gallery Director and Founding Curator, said “the gallery is a deceptively small space and can fit a lot of work. With the 3x3 at Arlene’s we keep the size requirements small in the hopes of raising as much as possible for our beneficiaries. For our artists, the size presented an interesting challenge because most people have an adverse reaction to working that small. However, the majority of people who donate work say how much fun they had making the pieces and how it is a great size to work in.”
He goes on to say “it is a very egalitarian show in that no one knows who made a piece until they purchase it and pick it up. You could get an original piece from a famous local artist or a beautifully crafted one from your next door neighbor. It makes it about the love of the piece, which is further encouraged by the affordable price and philanthropic act of raising money for such a vital cause as Free Food Fridge Albany.”
There will be an Opening Party for the 3X3 at Arlene’s on Friday, July 8, 2022, from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. It is free to attend, family friendly and open to the public. Nosh Food Truck, from Kinderhook, NY, will be here too with their delectable delights and DJ Brent Michael will be here to bring the party to the next level. Let’s come together to support Free Food Fridge Albany and continue to support our local community.
The 3X3 at Arlene’s will be on view at the R Gallery at Arlene’s, 57 Fuller Rd Albany NY 12205, from Friday, July 8, 2022 through Saturday, July 30, 2022. About Free Food Fridge Albany:
Free Food Fridge Albany makes fresh foods, fruits, produce, low-intervention foods, ready-to-eat meals (and more) accessible to all. They serve as an anonymous & direct food access point to food insecure neighborhoods, systematically oppressed and marginalized neighborhoods, as well as, and communities that hold the global majority. Access to fresh foods and produce have been a continuous issue in Albany and beyond, due to structural racism & redlining through city planning. Yes, our project was born out of a response to the immediate need that the Covid-19 pandemic presented. However, food insecurity is no stranger to the underrepresented and under-served people within our communities.
